I Could Love You

I Could Love You

27 February 1989

If you could only make something of yourself
I could love you
It’s as simple as that
My child

Why not knit yourself up into say a lawyer
Or a doctor – even a teacher would do
There are lots of patterns these days
And man-made fabrics are marvellous
Leaving little leeway for failure

There’s certainly no excuse to shrink
Or knot or ever let your tension drop
The instructions are clear
And the finished article so successful
So saleable

If you could only make something of yourself
I could love you
It’s as simple as that
My child
