My Life in Yoga
I began studying yoga in London in the 1970s, at the time when the then Inner London Education Authority introduced it as part of their extensive programme of cheap and popular adult education classes. At the same time BKS Iyengar was becoming known in the west as an effective and inspiring yoga practitioner and teacher and the authority asked him to certificate the teachers. I trained under his guidance and visited Pune twice for intensive sessions at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune. The Institute was dedicated to Ramamani, his late wife. I then taught for the Inner London Education Authority until my other great love, migraines, made that impossible. The images on this site were taken by Robert Scott and are from that time. While I never abandoned yoga, I practised less intensely at times until coming to live on Lismore, where I began to teach again. This means daily practice, as yoga can only be taught from one’s practice of the art.
